Modern Consciousness and Emotion Existence
Before the invention of the word “emotion”, people even only describe their feelings as “the accident of soul”. They do not know much about emotion. When it comes to the theory of humorism to the present scientific attention, people tried to explain their own sentiments and what “emotion” is in a more scientific ways. The emotion existence is closely related to conscious and unconscious mind. Many well-known psychologist such as Freud, Karl Max, or Rene Descartes were familiar in the topic of consciousness and unconsciousness. It is concluded that our emotion exists because of the awareness from our consciousness and unconsciousness by personal experiences and stimulation from internal and external environment.
Coming to the modern era, the concepts of consciousness and unconsciousness are more developed. She was inspired from some modern theorist to think about human thoughts, human consciousness and unconsciousness, human action and emotion interpretation, not only the explanation by the metaphor of iceberg theory. Thus, in her projects, she keeps exploring and presenting about the existences of consciousness, unconsciousness and emotions through her artistic practices. And, art creates a bridge between conscious mind and the unconscious mind.
This project is explored and developed by three titles including "Emotional Memories", "Ephemeral Senses" and "Empirical Experience".
Project 1: Emotional experience
This is a project about the memories of our emotions. Episodic memories will fade away over times because the scenes will keep accumulated and overlap one by one in our conscious minds, but emotions won't be disappeared. They are repressed in our unconscious mind.
Project 2: Ephemeral Senses
This is a project related to the emotion existence by the ephemeral sensory experiences. When we observe something from external, our emotions easily exist awakened by conscious and unconscious mind. Through artistic practices, it can bring our unconscious to the surface, to the conscious mind to express ourselves. I hope we can feel our emotions through the visually appreciation and the making arts as well.
Project 3: Empirical Experience
We're always relying on the description by using the single adjective to express our feeling and emotion, like frustrating, angry, happy. This is a project related to the emotion existence by the empirical experiences. The ideas are inspired by human action in my daily life. Not just only focus the images, the paints, or the composition on the paintings, there is "thick description" hidden behind the art pieces. Through processing arts, I am trying to forget the traditional painting skills but to awake my consciousness and unconsciousness and feel the emotions again.
